T-Rex Revealed
MobileAR for National Geographic Channel
Overview
This MobileAR application created by INDE utilised mobile devices as a platform for T-Rex Revealed, a travelling exhibition based on National Geographic Channel’s blockbuster documentary, Dino Autopsy.
The exhibit drew almost 200,000 people on opening day in Shanghai, and will continue to wow sold-out crowds as it moves across the continent.
Experience
T-Rex Revealed utilised augmented reality technology developed solely by INDE, combining two of our signature products into one uniquely immersive AR experience.
The BroadcastAR component allows groups of users to interact with lifesize renderings of dinosaurs, while up-to-date scientific facts and findings are explorable via the MobileAR app. With these two awe-inspiring and enlightening experiences working in tandem, curated in part with the University of Hong Kong, T-Rex Revealed truly lives up to its description as “edutainment”!
The mobile experience is accessible via on-site tablets, or via app download. By following markers at the venue, visitors are able to activate the AR content by simply pointing their camera to reveal relevant informational exhibits. The app also tracks objects that bring prehistoric animation roaring to life.
The narration is available in three languages – Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

Storyboard examples
Yutyrannus walks through a temperate forest looking for prey. Suddenly, it sees a Dilong sleeping in an open area in the canopy, so he stops and waits for the right opportunity to attack.
The Dilong is sleeping in a bundle, oblivious to the predator watching it, then the Yutyrannus runs out of the bushes and startles the Dilong.
As Dilong turns to face her attacker, Yutyrannus chomps on Dilong’s front half, swings its head causing Dilong to rip into two pieces.
