INDE created a MobileAR experience for Patchings Art Centre in Calverton, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom, compatible with Android and iOS devices. Patchings Artists' Trail, the app offers visitors the opportunity to discover the stories behind pieces of art by famous artists.

Key
features
Meet the Artist is the entry point to the AR experience. With it, the user accesses live camera view with initial instructions, which the user can opt to skip and proceed directly to the content. By pointing their device camera at one of 19 physical markers in the event space, the 3D content appears on their screen featuring a famous artist. Throughout the content, artists discuss their style and discuss their place in history.
The Jigsaw Hunt also utilises smartphone cameras to activate AR content, prompting users to collect various puzzle pieces at different physical markers by simply pointing their devices. If a puzzle is active, but not yet completed, the app will display all collected puzzle pieces, and the user can solve active puzzles by dragging pieces to corresponding places.
Photo Painter is an in-app feature that allows users to transform their personal photos into the style of a famous artist. Our team at INDE utilised what is called a “neural-style transfer algorithm,” converting arbitrary photographs into a specific artistic “style.” Five machine-learning models were trained to compare similarity between content and style of photos and paintings to create this function.
